Notes for Henry Boddington SAUNDERS Emigrated to Melbourne Australia in 1885 on the SS Orient He left his family in Melbourne and lived for some time in Perth, also South Africa. I don't know why. He was a high-principled abstainer, who wrote letters to papers & parliamentarians when he saw injustices. He did return in old age to Melbourne and died at my Granny's place. He was much loved by my family, and so was Elizabeth Amelia Gaskell. I have his walking stick. I think he was feeling a bit down when he wrote to his cousin, Henry Boddington II, in 1908, in France, the latter was trying to cheer him up. [27]
