Notes for Dr David Gamgee BODDINGTON

Spent a year of his National Service (Army) stationed on the island of St Kilda, one of the most remote islands in the British Isles, being about 41 miles WNW of Rubha Ghriminis, North Uist, Outer Hebrides. He was posted there to be the camp doctor, but his main purpose, and achievement, was to record all of the extensive bird life to be found on this rock in the north Atlantic. 50 years later, in 2009, he was finally permitted by the Ministry of Defence to publish a book about his experience and the birdlife he found there.

He qualified as a doctor at Birmingham University and took a post in the Worcestershire town of Bromyard where he spent his entire career.

He maintained his interest in birds throughout his life and visited many remote parts of the world in order to view every variety of species that he could find.

He was well known for his completely unmanageable frizzy hair! The picture was taken on 7th June 2008.
