Notes for George Frederick BODINGTON Attested as Bombardier in C Battery 58th Brigade Royal Field Artillery 30th August 1914 for ‘duration of war’ as part of Kitchener’s first new army. Soldier number 10650.
Arrived Dardanelles (Anzac Beach Gallipoli) 9th August 1915.
Brigade moves to Sulva Bay area.
‘Clears’ Sulva 10th November 1915 arriving Cardiff 26th November 1915.
Transferred to C Battery 163rd Brigade Royal Field Artillery as Bombardier.
Brigade arrives in Le Havre, France 31st January 1916.
July 1916 brigade takes part in the Somme offensive.
30th July 1916 brigade located near Maricourt supporting an attack on the German positions at Guillemont. Receives a ‘severe’ gunshot wound to the right leg.
31st July 1916 evacuated from France on Hospital Ship St David.
Attends Bradford War Hospital.
Transferred to 25th Reserve Battery Royal Field Artillery.
16th November 1917 transferred to Royal Flying Corps as Air Mechanic 2nd Class. Number 107812.
1st April 1918 RAF formed and becomes Air Mechanic 3rd Class.
6th February 1919 transferred to RAF reserve.
Discharged 2nd February 1921 with: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
