Eminent surgeon, in 1873 he founded the Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund. He also invented Gamgee Tissue, used in surgical medicine.

Sampson Gamgee: A Great Birmingham Surgeon

The extensive 'Sampson Gamgee Library for the History of Medicine' was once housed in a large house on the Calthorpe Estate, Edgbaston. This house is now a very nice pub/restaurant, The Physician owned by the excellent pub group Brunning & Price. [269]
